Franck de Las Mercedes was born in Masaya, Nicaragua. Raised in a family of dancers, musicians and teachers, Franck spent his childhood immersed in the performing arts and surrounded by the local art and craftsmanship of his small town.

In the mid-eighties, the Sandinista/Contra conflict forced Franck’s family to immigrate to New York, where Franck grew up and eventually worked in music and theatre. In the late nineties, Franck began to experiment with an undying fascination with visual arts, this experimentation quickly evolved into a promising career.

Completely self-taught, FdLM’s creations, from his large scale abstract paintings, to the acclaimed public project “The Priority Boxes”, have attracted great interest in his work and given him the opportunity to exhibit alongside important artists like Romero Britto and Robert Rauschenberg. With his "Priority Boxes" project, the artist has taken upon the task of sending colorful painted recycled boxes filled with nothing but Peace, Freedom and Hope; to anybody, anywhere in the world, for free. This public art series seeks to make people reconsider their ability to influence change, question the fragility and priority of entities like peace, and also to communicate, interact through art and make it accessible to people from all walks of life.

Franck has been the subject of the film An Abstract Way of Life, a documentary by Cara Weiner on abstract painters and "The Priority Boxes", a documentary by Dan Yadin.
He has been featured in national and international television shows and publications such as LatiNation, CNN En Español, Noticiero Telemundo and Univision’s “Aqui y Ahora” and Primer Impacto, Reader’s Digest, La Prensa (Nicaragua), Art Business News, American Style, The Artist’s magazine, Orion Magazine and Soul. In 2007 FdLM was invited by The Betty K Studio in New York to take part in an International Art Workshop led by teaching artists Olivier di Pizio and Gonzalo Belmonte of the Ateliers des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris.

"My paintings are a personal exploration of my psyche and the emotions that emerge in the present, triggered by memory or current experiences. Observing my feelings and body sensations without questioning them or intellectualizing them, allows me to release the strength of those emotions onto the surface. I like to use the same approach when I am painting a portrait or figure. I mix the colors right on the canvas with minimal use of brushes and I incorporate the imperfections of the surface, which allows me to create raw textures with bold colors."

Franck de Las Mercedes nació en Masaya, Nicaragua en una familia de bailarines, músicos y maestros. Desde muy temprana edad, Franck fue expuesto a las artes. A mediados de los años ochenta su familia emigra a los Estados Unidos donde Franck creció en Nueva York y se destaco en la música y teatro.

A mediado de los 90s, Franck empezó a experimentar con su facinacion con las artes plásticas. Esta experimentación muy pronto se volvió en una prometedora carrera como pintor.

Aunque no tubo un entrenamiento formal en el arte, su trabajo, desde sus pinturas abstractas a su proyecto público al que ha denominado “The Priority Boxes”, ha despertado mucho interés por su arte hoy en día y le ha dado la oportunidad de exhibir con importantes pintores como Romero Britto y Robert Rauschenberg.

Las obras de FdLM son muy íntimas y evocan temas simbólicos y personales.
Su proyecto "Cajas de Prioridad" es una serie artística de pinturas en cajas de Cartón vacías, las cuales envía gratis con un mensaje de Paz, a cualquier parte del mundo.
Esta obra invita a la persona que recibe una a pensar y reconsiderar la habilidad de influenciar cambios, a comunicarse por medio del arte y a hacer el arte accesible a todo tipo de persona.

Franck fue el tema del documental de arte abstracto moderno “An Abstract Way of Life” por la directora Cara Weiner y "The Priority Boxes", un documental por Dan Yadin.
Ha sido entrevistado por shows y publicaciones internacionales como "Aquí y Ahora" y "Primer Impacto" por Univision, Latination, CNN en Español, Telemundo Noticiero Nacional,
Art Business News, American Style, Selecciones Reader’s Digest, La Prensa (Nicaragua), The Artist’s magazine, Orion Magazine y Soul.

En el 2007 FdLM fue invitado por el Taller Betty K (The Betty K Studio) en Nueva York a ser parte de un taller Internacional de Arte con los pintores y maestros Olivier di Pizio and Gonzalo Belmonte de Ateliers des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris.

" Mis pinturas son una exploración de mi psique y las emociones que surgen en el presente, provocadas por la memoria o experiencias de cada dia. El observar mis sentimientos y sensaciones físicas sin questionar o intelectualizar, me permite liberar la fuerza de esas emociones en el lienzo. Me gusta usar el mismo método al pintar retratos. Mezclo los colores al pintar, en la propia superficie y hago uso mínimo de pinceles. Me gusta incorporar las imperfecciones de la superficie lo cual me permite crear texturas rústicas con colores vivos."
