The film paints a detailed portrait of Jairo and his tireless commitment to the game as he balances his hopes of signing a professional contract with the reality of its improbability. Interviewed are professional scouts, coaches, family members, a baseball historian and San Pedro-born Robinson Canó, the second baseman of the New York Yankees. See the trailer.

It has already been awarded Best Documentary Short Film at the Urbanworld Film Festival. Don't miss it! Playing TODAY at The New School University, Swayduck Auditorium - 65 5th Ave (btw 13th & 14th St), NY. The film will be screened along with Hugo Perez’s short film The Ecstasy.

Ivan Arocha - Women and Flowers
September 26 & 27, 3-5pm

"Women and Flowers" is a work in process that began in the fall of 2006 for a performance-installation. At present it's comprised of 13 pieces in mixed media on canvas, 72x24 inches. Painted on both sides of the canvas, they are mounted on mobile structures.

Traditionally white has been assumed as the color that symbolizes peace. Women dressed in white carrying flowers are the elements portrayed by the characters in the installation "Women and Flowers". Women have historically participated in this theme of protest against injustice and abuse, from the colonial occupation of India by the British and most recently throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas.

As a tribute to Bertold Brecht the first presentation of "Women and Flowers" is a peaceful protest against the merchant of lies. Much is spoken of the pollution of the planet, but one of the worst pollutants is lying. We have unknowingly become consumers of lies and sometimes mutilated truths.

"The truth is very sensitive and has many enemies, so we have to learn to defend and protect it, because although it is delicate it is the most powerful weapon that exists to combat the ignominy."

That truth is light and white flowers! Come and partake of Ivan's Art Performance Installation at the Metropolitan Museum of Art: 1000 Fifth Avenue at 82nd Street,
New York.
