joseArt Exhibit and Short Documentary honor the 156th birthday of Jose Marti, Cuban Poet, Patriot and Revolutionary.

Nine hispanic artists share their vision of Jose Marti as poet, patriot and revolutionary in a group show at Gallery Twenty-One in Newark. The opening reception is Saturday, Jan 24, 6-9pm. The exhibit closes on Friday, February 13.

Marti, A Life in Exile, by Avenol A. Franco, a native New Yorker, will be shown at 7pm. It is a biographical documentary short film, 12 minutes long, that highlights moments and aspects in the extraordinary life of the humanitarian, romantic, philosophical writer and Cuban Revolutionary poet, Jose Marti. Marti was the innovative head of the Cuban revolutionary revolt against Spain in the last quarter of the 19th century. The documentary depicts the short life of Marti from his birth in Havana, the commencement of his nationalistic fervor in his pre-teen years, his travels throughout Europe and South America and the fifteen years that he lived in New York before his final and fateful return to Cuba.
